VietNam trip 98 -Da Nang

We fly to Da Nang from Hanoi. The Vietnam airline service is excellent considering that the trip took only 45 minutes. The reason we fly to Danang instead of Hue, which is a more desirable destination for tourists, is that we can fly on a western aircraft. Just for the sake of our safety "mentality", we can not trust the aging Soviet era craft that fly the Ha Noi-Hue route. We stay in a hotel across from the cathedral. We go sightseeing the city, which doesn't have a lot to offer itself. I feel thrill, however, because this is my ancestor home city.

We rent a minivan to visit Hoian, then stop by Non Nuoc (Ngu Hanh Son) and dine at a restaurant on China beach.

We take the train to Nhatrang. It is a night, non stop express. It costs 150,000 VN dong for the fisrt class ticket. The train departs at 3PM in Danang and arrives at 4 AM next morning in Nhatrang. The train service is a vast difference compare to the time I took the train 15 years ago. We even have a diner, complete with bottled water and paper-wrapped chop-sticks, served to our compartment now!
